ABOUT CHRIST LUTHERAN SCHOOL

Christ Lutheran School was begun in 1965 by the Rev. Norman Stephen Dinkel and the congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Christ in Rosedale, New York. For 34 years of its history the headmaster of Christ Lutheran School was the Rt. Rev. Aubrey N. Bougher, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church and bishop of the Northern Diocese of the Lutheran Church-International. Bishop Bougher was succeeded by the Rev. Jack R. Whritenour in June of 2015.

From the beginning, ours has been a diverse, welcoming school receiving students from Rosedale and the surrounding neighborhoods in Queens and Nassau County. We are known for our smaller class sizes and individual student attention. Our faculty and staff are very dedicated, and many of our alumni are accepted into excellent high schools and colleges, and go on to have great careers.

In addition to the traditional academic subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, history, science, geography, music, etc., Christian prayer, worship, and the study of the Holy Bible are also integral parts of the Christ Lutheran school experience. We uphold and teach the Christian values of self-respect and respect for others, love, forgiveness, kindness, and charity. Our students graduate knowing not only their academic subjects, but also what it means to be a Christian.

Our Philosophy

As a Christian school we believe that every human is created in God's image, and therefore loved and valued by God.

All children deserve an education that will help them reach their full potential as human beings.  Our goal is to provide each student with the foundational academic knowledge that they need to succeed in higher learning. Our students also learn Christian faith and values, begin their day with prayer, and gather together in chapel to worship God, so that they grow not only academically, but spiritually as well.

Our History

Christ Lutheran School was founded in 1965 to serve the community of Rosedale and surrounding communities.

Since then hundreds of students have graduated to go on to good high schools, colleges, and great careers. Our school has always been blessed with competent, caring, hard-working teachers, devoted to Christ and highly dedicated to their vocation as educators. The school has had four headmasters (all pastors of Christ Lutheran Church): Pastor Norman S. Dinkel (1965-1973),  Pastor David C. Hackman (1973-1980), Bishop Aubrey N. Bougher (1981-2015), and Pastor Jack R. Whritenour (who began in June 2015). The current principal is Mrs. Beth A. Diodato.
